Cotton Workwear

Signs of Wear

  • Fabric thin enough to see through
  • Seam separation at stress points
  • Faded colour from UV exposure
  • Persistent chemical stains
  • Tears larger than 2.5cm

Recommendation

Replace immediately if fabric integrity is compromised. General replacement every 6-12 months depending on wear intensity.

Flame Retardant Workwear

Signs of Wear

  • Any fire exposure damage
  • Non-FR repairs performed
  • Labels illegible
  • Washing with improper chemicals
  • Beyond manufacturer wash limit

Recommendation

Replace after ANY fire exposure. Replace if washing protocol violated. Maximum 50-100 washes depending on fabric type.

Acid Resistant Workwear

Signs of Wear

  • Chemical burns or discolouration on fabric
  • Protective barrier visibly damaged
  • Seam failure allowing penetration
  • Degradation from improper storage

Recommendation

Replace immediately after significant chemical exposure. Inspect monthly and replace at first sign of barrier compromise.

Reflective Workwear

Signs of Wear

  • Reflective tape peeling or cracked
  • Fluorescent background faded
  • Tape coverage below standard minimum
  • Stitching on tape failing

Recommendation

Replace every 6-12 months in harsh conditions. Replace immediately if reflective performance is visibly reduced.

Denim Workwear

Signs of Wear

  • Knees or elbows worn through
  • Double stitching unraveling
  • Rips that cannot be practically repaired
  • Fabric stiff from oil saturation

Recommendation

Replace when protective coverage is compromised. Denim typically lasts 12-18 months with proper care.

Care & Maintenance Guidelines

Proper care extends garment life and maintains protective properties. Follow these guidelines for all Sahara Workwear garments.

Washing Procedures

Follow manufacturer care labels. Wash FR garments separately with mild detergent only. Never use bleach, fabric softener or starch on FR garments. Wash heavily soiled garments promptly. Use appropriate water temperature for fabric type.

Drying Recommendations

Air dry FR and hi-vis garments when possible. Tumble dry on low heat if necessary. Do not dry clean FR garments. Avoid direct sunlight for extended drying of hi-vis. Ensure garments are completely dry before storage.

Storage Requirements

Store in clean, dry, well-ventilated areas. Avoid direct sunlight and UV exposure. Store away from chemicals, oils and solvents. Hang garments to prevent creasing. Keep away from heat sources for FR garments.

Repair Guidance

Only repair with compatible fabric and thread. FR garments require FR-rated repair materials. Document all repairs in PPE register. Replace rather than repair when in doubt. Professional repair recommended for certified garments.

Chemical Contamination

Remove contaminated garments immediately. Decontaminate according to chemical type before washing. Do not re-wear until fully decontaminated. Document contamination incident. Replace if decontamination is not possible.

Reflective Tape Maintenance

Clean reflective tape regularly with damp cloth. Do not scrub with abrasive materials. Check attachment after every wash. Replace garment if tape is peeling or cracked. Store flat or hung to prevent tape stress.

FR Garment Care

Wash FR garments inside out. Use only mild detergent. Avoid contact with chlorine bleach. Do not use starch or fabric softener. Repair only with FR-rated thread. Inspect after every wash cycle.

Inspection Intervals

Daily: Visual check by wearer. Weekly: Detailed inspection by supervisor. Monthly: Formal compliance check. After exposure: Immediate post-event inspection. Annually: Complete PPE audit.

Safety Should Fit Everyone

Women working in mining, construction, manufacturing and industrial environments deserve workwear that fits properly, protects adequately and supports their performance. Ill-fitting PPE compromises safety, reduces compliance and affects productivity.

Contoured designs for female body shapes
Adjustable waistbands and cuffs
Appropriate chest and hip room without excess fabric
Properly sized hi-vis coverage areas

Industry Workwear Matrix

Find the right workwear for your industry based on common hazards and recommended protective solutions.

Mining

Flame Retardant Workwear Reflective Workwear

Mining operations present fire risks from diesel equipment, electrical systems and processing plants. Flame retardant workwear protects against flash fires and molten metal splash. Reflective workwear ensures visibility in low-light underground conditions and around heavy vehicle traffic.

Key Hazards: Flash fire Molten metal Vehicle strikes Chemical exposure Heat stress

Manufacturing

Cotton Workwear

Manufacturing environments typically require breathable, comfortable workwear for extended shifts. Cotton provides excellent comfort, absorbs perspiration and offers adequate protection against general mechanical hazards in assembly and production settings.

Key Hazards: Mechanical abrasion Heat exposure Dust and particulates Minor chemical splash

Engineering

Denim Workwear Flame Retardant Workwear

Engineering workshops require durable workwear that withstands abrasion from metalwork, welding and fabrication. Denim offers superior durability for general workshop use, while FR options are essential for welding, grinding and hot work activities.

Key Hazards: Sparks and spatter Sharp metal edges Abrasion Oil and grease Heat exposure

Construction

Reflective Workwear Cotton Workwear

Construction sites require high visibility for vehicle and equipment traffic, especially roadside work. Cotton workwear provides comfort for physically demanding outdoor labour. Combined hi-vis cotton options offer the best of both protection types.

Key Hazards: Vehicle strikes Falling objects Weather exposure Dust UV exposure

Chemical Processing

Acid Resistant Workwear

Chemical processing plants handle corrosive substances that can cause severe burns and injuries. Acid resistant workwear provides a protective barrier against chemical splashes, spills and vapour exposure in processing, handling and maintenance activities.

Key Hazards: Chemical burns Vapour exposure Splash contamination Corrosive spills

Warehousing & Logistics

Cotton Workwear Reflective Workwear

Warehousing and logistics operations require comfortable workwear for long shifts combined with hi-vis for forklift and vehicle traffic. Cotton provides breathability in often non-climate-controlled environments, while reflective elements ensure visibility.

Key Hazards: Forklift traffic Manual handling Dust Temperature extremes
